Wondering about a career in care? Care Works Academies are for you.

Kingdom Support & Care and Kingdom Works, the employability project from Kingdom Housing Association, have teamed up to deliver a series of Care Works Academies, aimed at giving participants an insight into the hugely varied and rewarding world of working in care.

Care Works Academies started in January 2023 and many of the people who have completed the training have gone on to find employment in the sector.

Leanne Brown from Kingdom Works and Lee Herd from Kingdom Support & Care developed the Care Works Academy to give a practical insight into what working in support and care involves.

All of the Care Works Academy training is fully certified and has been designed as a bespoke package through Fife Training in Kirkcaldy. Topics covered include Emergency First Aid, Mental Health Awareness, and Moving and Handling. Kingdom Support & Care also gives those attending the Academy a full overview of their service and the type of support they offer as well as a session from the Positive Behaviour Support Team. 

Everyone who attends the Care Works Academy also receives training from the Kingdom Works team to make sure they are fully prepared to find work in the care sector. Kingdom Support & Care also guarantee a first-stage interview on completion of the Academy.

Max’s Story

Max, pictured above, took part in the first Care Works Academy in 2023 and is now a waking night support worker within the Kingdom Support & Care Dunfermline Service.

This is what Max had to say about his journey:

“I was interested in a career in care. Some of my family members work in the sector and said I would be good at it. At first I was a little sceptical about it, but due to an immediate family member having additional needs, I did have an understanding of support work and the differences even the smallest of things make to those who need it. I found out about the ‘Intro To Care’ course through the job centre and I have not looked back. I am 10 months into my position and I am loving every moment of it. The training and support I have received from the team have been brilliant. The impact of the support we provide to our supported individuals is amazing and I am already looking forward to what the future holds for me within Kingdom Support & Care.”
